Grape Expectations: Spiral Rock Vineyard joins LC Valley’s growing wine industry

Halfway up Lewiston’s Old Spiral Highway, 2 acres of grapes thrive on the steep hillside.

As September fades to October, the greenish fruit is at its peak, ready to pick. In one day, volunteers will pluck the grapes from the vines. They’ll be washed and pressed, and by evening fermenting into the first official vintage for Spiral Rock Vineyard.

“We’re hoping to have 200 to 300 cases, 2,400 to 3,600 bottles, by mid-December,” said Stuart Davis, who owns the newly established vineyard with his wife, Becky.
